the Interview

The Interview

Ah, as for the written test, I have no idea what did I write for the essay critic part but I know for the MCQ it’s disastrous. Err, I’m not quite sure who is our deputy prime minster other than Wong Kan Seng. I thought it was Tony Tan, but well, he retired last year. Pardon my ignorance.

During the interview, it was rather relaxed. The professors (there were 2) who interviewed me were warm and nice. They asked questions which weren’t too difficult, but the problem came when they saw the newspaper articles I brought.

Me: “Here are some of the articles (I told them I’m 通讯员)”
Them: “Oh, that’s very useful”
Them:“It seems like all these are in Chinese, so it is right to say that Chinese is your forte?”
Me: “Hmmm, yes.”
Them: (Flip flip flip, talk a bit)
Them: “I see. From what I see (flip through the stack of documents, shit, the written test jus now was also there), u did well for your Chinese too but your GP…(smile)
Me: “Oh yes.”
Them: “ Will you feel comfortable using English in high level education?”
Me: “Erm. I think it should be okay? (If you say something like ‘no’, then perhaps u shouldn’t even come for this interview right? Ha!)
Them: “You chose Chinese as your second choice, you know, you can actually take Chinese and perhaps double major or minor the courses like journalism etc in our school to keep the passion going.(2 of them nod in agreement)”
Me: “(Smile, and nod too)”
Them: “Ah, we still don’t know what the outcome will be as, you know we have to gather everything and do all the interviews before we decide. It doesn’t mean you’re not accepted”
Me: “Yes, yes I understand”
Them: “Yea, you see your student correspondent with SPH is a very big plus point, and it definitely is relevant to SCI.”

Haiyo, see what I meant by ‘WHAT? Shortlisting me?”
Anyway, the other deputy prime minister is Shunmugam Jayakumar.
